History of North Myrtle Beach

The city of North Myrtle Beach formed in 1968 when the four municipalities, Windy Hill, Crescent Beach, Ocean Drive, and Cherry Grove merged. Atlantic Beach, which splits the city into two parts, decided to remain independent. Being located just a few miles from Myrtle Beach has made North Myrtle Beach a popular destination for vacationers looking to be near all the attractions. During the 2000 census it was determined that there are 10,974 residents living in an area of around 13.5 square miles. The city of North Myrtle Beach is the hometown for well known game show host Vanna White, as well as Golf Channel reporter Kelly Tilghman.
